Our Specialist Teachers
"The brilliant uniqueness of all the teachers that have come through the school so far and of course the wonderful wisdom of Annie Stainer who teaches from the level of the unknown - undiscovered." A Total Theatre student.

Annie Stainer Director & Principal Trainer
Annie has established her reputation world wide, not only for her award winning solo performances, but also for her individual and unique style of teaching. Annie's unique approach to the training of the performer has a breath taking simplicity that consistently peels away the false facades and heavy armouring of technique, and invites a return to the wellspring of our inner knowing. Her teaching style directly explores ephemeral landscapes, feeling, shadows, sub-text and intuition - all those most fundamental, essential yet ephemeral qualities of the actor's palette. As she creates a safe circle in which performers can explore their hidden depth, layers of fear and inhibition gently dissolve, and confidence and spontaneity begin to blossom.

If something needs doing around the place then Sophie is the girl to find. Mostly found in the Total Theatre office tapping away on the computer, she can also be found up the tolloscope sorting lights, amongst the costumes fixing things, in the Total Theatre vegie garden pulling weeds, or in the theatre teaching some swingin' moves. (If you can't find her, she may have snuck away to read a good book or practice her piano accordion) Sophie took the creative leap of faith with Annie back in 2002 when they decided to set up a school together - and here she is still! Sophie's main passions are in stories, childhood, travel, music and special things. Sophie also likes to play her guitar, piano accordion, sing, dance, make things and potter around.
