Annie Stainer is an original

She studied at the London School of Contemporary Dance and Mime with Etienne Decroux in Paris. She has performed in ensembles with Lindsay Kemp, David Bowie, Emil Wolk and Steven Berkoff, but is best known for her work in SOLO PHYSICAL THEATRE.

She began her solo career as mime/dancer with "The Legend of Lilith", an epic work performed in various theatres and churches, including the Cathedral of St John the Divine, Manhattan, the world's biggest Cathedral.

"Moon", her most celebrated work, received a Fringe First Award at the Edinburgh Festival, and has since been performed all over the world at Festivals in London, Belfast, Wroclaw, Berne, Palermo, Salzburg, Amsterdam, Budapest, Jerusalem, Tokyo and New York.

"Changing Woman" premiered in Glasgow, Scotland; and was later performed at the Festival of Perth, as part of the Annie Stainer Trilogy.

For 6 years Annie was Head of Movement at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. She left the Academy to resume her own career as performer, film-maker, and free-lance teacher, conducting workshops in Australia, Britain, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, Morocco, France, Switzerland, and Hungary.

She is an inspirational visionary and much loved teacher whose work has travelled effortlessly around the world, weaving its magic spell wherever she goes. Annie now brings this magic to her very own School of Physical Theatre.

Annie Stainer:

" I see Perth as the perfect location for an intensive 'Total Theatre" school. I myself trained in Paris and London, and the pressures were enormous, in terms of finance, accommodation, travel, etc. In Perth, students can afford to live well, eat well, stay healthy and develop new talents at the right pace. Performance opportunities are infinite, and the public is ready to welcome the emergence of new creative artists."
