Total Theatre Presents...

A Variety Show Supper-Club
'THE GOOD COMPANIONS’

Meet the Honeybones.

A nice, normal family, living a quiet life, somewhere in the North of England. It’s 1946, the War is over, it’s Christmas and time to celebrate. “Put your feet up Mother and I’ll make you nice cup of tea.” Peace at last. That is until the arrival of Aunt Mabel and ‘Uncle’ Harry - both on the same day! Now everyone can say goodbye to peace and quiet. From now on it’s a domestic nightmare; with flying crockery, slamming doors, dark secrets, naughty memories and skeletons tumbling out of every closet.

A crazy collection of people who just don’t seem to get on very well at all. A recipe for disaster? Only until they hit upon the perfect solution. The one thing they love to do is perform. And when they perform, a miracle happens – they stop arguing. So why not perform all the time?

Come and join the ‘Good Companions’ as they sing and dance their way through a crazy evening of great entertainment that the whole family can enjoy. With live music by our Musical Director Mark Turton & Directed by Annie Stainer.

“We’ll do the show, you can bring the supper.”

The show will begin at 8pm, but doors are open from 7pm, and we invite you to bring an indoor picnic to enjoy.

Mr Steven Berkoff Joins Us

Total Theatre is turning 5 in 2006 and to help celebrate, we are thrilled to announce the exciting news that world famous Actor, Writer & Director, Mr Steven Berkoff is joining us as our International Patron.

“Annie Stainer worked with me on ‘The Fall of the House of Usher’, which toured Australia (1982), and for me this was one of the most rewarding experiences. Annie is a rare kind of person in the arts and performance, since she brings to her creations a wide range of influences and insights and is determined, in my opinion, to create a theatre that goes beyond the commonplace and takes us into far deeper areas. Therefore, the theatre becomes something that gives us hope, life and inspiration.” (Steven Berkoff, London 2005)

Annie met up with Steven earlier this year whilst he was on his Australian tour of ‘Shakespeare’s Villains’. It was then that he accepted the invitation to be our International Patron. It is our absolute pleasure to welcome him aboard and we are sure that he & his work will be of great inspiration to past, present and future students at Total Theatre.

Annie Stainer – Director of TT

Some of you may be asking ‘Who is this mysterious Annie Stainer – Director of Total Theatre?’

Annie studied at the London School of Contemporary Dance and Mime with Etienne Decroux in Paris. She has performed in ensembles with Lindsay Kemp, David Bowie, Emil Wolk and Steven Berkoff, but is best known for her work in solo physical theatre. She began her solo career as mime/dancer with "The Legend of Lilith", an epic work performed in theatres and churches around the world. "Moon", her most celebrated work, received a Fringe First Award at the Edinburgh Festival, and went on to perform at Festivals in London, Belfast, Wroclaw, Berne, Palermo, Salzburg, Amsterdam, Budapest, Jerusalem, Australia, Tokyo and New York. "Changing Woman" premiered in Glasgow, Scotland; and was later performed at the Festival of Perth, as part of the Annie Stainer Trilogy. For 6 years Annie was Head of Movement at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. She left the Academy to resume her own career as performer, film-maker, and free-lance teacher, conducting workshops in Australia, Britain, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, Morocco, France, Switzerland, and Hungary. She is an inspirational visionary and much loved teacher whose work has travelled effortlessly around the world, weaving its magic spell wherever she goes. Annie now brings this magic to her very own School.

The ‘Be Active & Have Fun’ Theatre-In Education Programme 2005.

This year’s Theatre-in-Education tour was once again a great success. And with the kind support of Healthway and The National Heart Foundation, our students were able to create two shows & take the ‘Be Active & Have Fun’ message to 10 Primary Schools and 10 Aged care homes around Perth.

Here’s what the schools and centres had to say:

" Such a positive, fun and vibrant presentation of a very important message. We'll have you back anytime!"

"Even now, months after the programme, my students still talk about the performers and their fantastic show."

“Excellent, some of our residents didn’t stop laughing.”

Total Theatre Robbed!
Sadly, earlier this year some mean people let themselves into our greenroom and stole our TV & video player, which were regularly used for research sessions as well as during classes. They also stole our brand new pro-speakers & stands! This was quite a set back for us – but chin up - ‘the show must go on’!

Costumes, Props, Books?
We are always on the look out for crazy & wonderful costumes/props as well as interesting books for our school library.
If you ever come across any in your travels or chuck-outs, remember, all donations to Total Theatre are gratefully received!

Who Supports Total Theatre?
Total Theatre is a proudly independent school that receives very little outside sponsorship. However, we would like to take this opportunity to say a BIG THANK YOU to those wonderful companies who continue to show support for our school – MosArts (The Mosman Park Arts Foundation), Metropolis Nightclub Fremantle, Mosman Video, Mosman Park Rotary & All Things Theatre.

“Oh, What A Lovely Cruise!” – A Siberian Murder Mystery, Vaudeville, Supper Club! This was another sold-out Vaudeville season from the TT gang, performed in the much-loved cabaret supper-club style. “We did the show – and you brought the supper!”

“Wow!” and ‘The Good Life’ were the 2 shows created for this years’ ‘Be Active’ Theatre-in-Education programme/tour. Both were a great success with schools and centres booking shows well in advance.

Roving performances in 2005 have included – Mosman Parks ‘Picnic In The Park’, Rotary Clubs ‘Cord Blood Bank’ launch, Nocturnal Ball 2005 (Metropolis, Freo), John Hughes’s Big Walk & Pride Parade 2005.
